Hoengseong Hanu Festival 횡성한우축제
Hoengseong Hanu Festival is an annual free-entry festival that take place in Hoengseong County in Gangwon Province. It is said that the climate and the environment is perfect for raising cattle.
The main highlight is of course Hanu (Korean beef)! Different grades and parts of Hanu available for you to choose from. You may pack it home or, with additional charges, you may eat it at one of the make-shift restaurant available.
To those who chose to dine-in, there will be a looooong queue. Be prepared to wait for 45 minutes to 1 hour. But the experience is worth it! You may choose to choose your own beef or just join in the queue and let the staff choose it randomly for you! Another thing to note is, the make-shift restaurants are own by the owner who are selling the beef too. So you may only dine-in the respective restaurants with the beef sold by them.
The Hanu sold here are supposedly cheaper. However, taking all the costs into consideration (bus ticket, time, effort, cost of beef and fee to dine-in), there isn't much difference. Then again, experience, both culture experience and the experience of eating BBQ Hanu at such a beautiful outdoor environment, is priceless.
Others
Other than delicious Hanu, there are other activities and food sampling available as well.
You can find live cattle and wild flowers too!
Most importantly, the nature!
