Subway in Seoul

Seoul subway system is one of the most  convenient and fastest way to get around Seoul, if not Korea.It looks really complicated but it is actually quite user friendly. However, you will still require the map to travel around, if you're new to it.

An easy way to find out the duration and cost of each journey can be found on Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT) website. By selecting your depature station and destination, the website is able to indicate to you what's the duration and cost of the journey. It also indicates the shortest route and which station to do a transfer of train.

When travelling using Seoul's subway system, instead of looking for the name of the last station, like in Singapore, look for the name of the next station!

For example, if you're travelling from Hongdae to Gyeongbokgung.

From Hongik University Station, look for the subway line heading towards Sinchon. Alight at Eujiro 3(sam)ga and transfer to line 3, board the train that is heading towards Jongno 3(sam)-ga and alight at Gyeongbokgung Station.

Unlike Singapore, Korea uses the number as compared to the color of the line. Since some colors can be quite similar, it is recommended to know the line number instead (e.g. line 1, line 4, Airport Railroad). 

Some subway stations even have screen that indicate where's the exact location of the train!
